I’d Like To Introduce: NoteCase and NoteCase Pro:
These are two schweet Notetaking and organization apps, one the basic, free version, the other the “souped up” Pro version. They’re available for Linux, UNIX, Windows 9x through Vista, and Mac OS X, as well as the Sharp Zaurus and Nokia Tablet PC’s on the Maemo platform.
It is released under the BSD License. If you like the basic, free version, you can always upgrade to the more feature-filled, expanded Pro version for a license-based subscription from 35EURO to 117EURO as of today’s date of April 21, 2008. There are various tiers to the license, and it is available for purchase through the Kagi.com storefront.
Miroslav Rajcic develops the software and is currently interested in some good help in the areas of:
- Marketing
- Documentation
- Website Maintenance
- Testing
I think he’s a swell dude from the correspondence we’ve shared, and plan on assisting to the best of my abilities.
I’ve been a big fan of Natara’s Bonsai Outliner for Palm and Windows in the past, but for those of you who know me, know I’ve exited the Windows world for my home computing environment for the *NIX world, and may remember hearing me gripe about “If only they had a version for Linux/UNIX…”
I’ve stopped griping because NoteCase does what I wanted, better, lighter, and more cleanly than Bonsai. Personal preference applies here of course, and YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).
Some of the coolest features are:
- Settable Keyboard Shortcuts
- Settable Save points & Autosave features (timed, & upon exit!)
- Close to System Tray (so you can’t abandon your work. These last two features make NoteCase information Persistent, something I wish was settable in EVERY application EVER WRITTEN. But hey, I can shout for joy when I find an intelligently written app that has the foresight to include this feature)
- Node-based Note layout: Each note may have an unlimited number of sub-nodes: a true hierarchal management feature.
- a normal, or ENCRYPTED format! Yay! A diary/journal safe from prying eyes! Also handy for those sensitive projects, or if you are working on stuff with an NDA.
- An enhanced Professional Version, available by subscription license.
That about sums up what I personally dig about this pair of apps. What I *wish* was available:
- Palm OS app
- iPhone app
Maybe you know how to write for those platforms and are looking for a worthwhile pet project to join in on? Ask Miroslav (link above).
I think you get the point that I’m thrilled with the project(s), app quality, and the project maintainer/driver by now, so That’s All Punks…
